Detoxification (detox) is the term commonly used to describe the medical process of removing toxic substances from the body. This is an area of the rehab process which can cause clients the most anxiety as they are unsure what to expect. Please let us assure you that the detox process, the medications used and the support provided have all evolved over the years. A combination of the right medication prescribed by our addiction trained doctor, coupled with a solid support environment will ensure that the exit from your physical addiction will be as safe and comfortable as possible. In fact, the vast majority of clients report to us that they have a far better experience than their fear and anticipation tell them they are going to have. All of our detoxes are medically assisted, prescribed and overseen by our registered doctor/ psychiatrist. We have successfully carried out 1000s of medically assisted alcohol and drug detox treatments over the years.
During your detox you will be surrounded by people who care passionately about helping and supporting you. Our residential rehab facilities are staffed 24/7 by our dedicated and caring support team. All of our in-house treatment specialists are fully trained, will carry out regular checks and are authorised to issue prescribed medication
We have all of the skills and experience in place to ensure that you will receive the highest level of care and have the best experience possible. If after your assessment, your medical detoxification requirements fall outside of our ability to safely care for you, you can be assured that our admissions team will refer you to a suitable facility at no extra cost. Our admission coordinators can even arrange for you to come back to our centre after you have been safely detoxed, if you wish! This can even be financially beneficial as high-level detox centres can cost considerably more.
During your detox period (commonly 10 to 14 days) you will be able to join in groups, participate in house activities and go for walks with staff and peers. We know that keeping your mind occupied with your recovery and getting back to life, helps greatly in the detox period.
To ensure we meet best practice in compliance with NICE guidelines we are annually inspected and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). You can read our inspection report by clicking here: https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-2501582617
Please note that the full cost of an alcohol or drug detox is included within our brochures. Extra costs may sometimes occur if the medical needs of the individual go outside the initial agreed detox plan, i.e. extra medication required, extra trips to the doctor or hospital for other illnesses. Sometimes clients would like to see the private doctor for other issues or to discuss the possibility of reducing medication, these will incur further costs.

I had been abusing alcohol for years. I had great anxiety and fear regarding my alcohol detox. I had spoken with my own doctor on numerous occasions over the years and he had gone to great lengths to stress the importance of not just quitting unsupervised due to my extremely high level of alcohol consumption. ECR was brilliant. I saw their Detox Doctor on arrival and the fear went away. The staff helped with cope with the anxiety during the detox, but the fear was gone. Amazing.
I came to ECR coming off methadone and heroin. I had a lot of fears coming into treatment, and the fear of detoxing was one of them, my past experiences with detoxes had been failure Generally my detox at ECR went smoothly, only slight levels of discomfort in my head. I had believed it was going to be hellish. How wrong I was! The support from staff & peers was a vital help as most had been through drug withdrawals and their loving support gave me the strength with ECR’s help I became free of substances for the first time in a very long time and continue to remain so.
